Pilot injured in Honaunau paraglider crash

A paraglider crashed Saturday in an old coffee field above Honaunau, and the pilot, a 45-year-old man, was taken to Kona Community Hospital, according to the Hawaii County Fire Department.

Responding to the 11:07 a.m. call, a county helicopter found the man tangled in a tree. Fire rescue specialist on the ground made their way up to the crash site, as well as assessed the man’s injuries before transporting him to the hospital’s emergency room. The man told rescuers that he was on a downward spiral approximately 300 to 400 feet above the ground before crashing, fire officials said.
